2020 Mid-Year Review

Like most people and companies, we started out the year with big plans, and like everyone else - those plans were changed by a global pandemic.

It’s been an adjustment for both clients and teammates, but we’ve been able to work safely through most of the spring and everyone has been patient and hardworking. Now we’re already halfway through 2020, and we’ve got a wide variety of projects to share with you. From whole home renovations to smaller updates and efficiency upgrades, we’ve made the most of the last six months and are looking forward to several more projects on the horizon for the remainder of this year.

Completed Projects

Mid-Century Remodel

We’ve covered the renovation of this mid-century gem in depth with a blog about the design work and another about the construction phase. Our clients were able to move into their home this spring, and we’re looking forward to final photos coming soon!

Wintergreen: Phase 1

Outside of our normal work and comfort zone, phase one of this mountaintop energy-efficient renovation is now complete. It was cold up on top of Devil’s Knob, but the view was great. The crew worked hard to keep the job on schedule as we wrapped up the first part of the project.  Among phase one tasks were updating the exterior including sliding doors, skylights and new siding to eliminate some water issues. Did we mention that it was cold up there this winter?

West End Update

An exterior facelift made a world of difference on this West End farmhouse style home. A new, clean modern porch and paint color created a huge transformation. Stay tuned for a more in-depth blog on this project and all the sustainable features we were able to work into it.

Ongoing Projects

Grove Avenue

This historic home needed some exterior repairs along the roof, which is made of clay tile shingles. While the shingles were still in good shape, the wood underlayment and surrounding trim was rotted. In typical clay tile roof work, all of the tiles get removed and saved for reinstallation after the wood is repaired, so there’s very little waste, and the material gets to live on.

Fan Renovation

This home, built in 1906 is having some interior facelift work done to update the bathrooms and add other modern conveniences like closets - which houses of this age rarely have.

Wintergreen: Phase 2

We’re back on top of the mountain to work on another section of the house. This time it’s a little less frigid! We love our repeat clients.

Master Bathroom Remodel

While most of our projects are large-scale remodels of whole homes, we do work on projects of all sizes. We are excited to give this bathroom a much-needed update.

Future Projects

High Point West End

We are in the early stages of working with High Point on their new location in the West End, alongside the designers at Campfire & Co. It’s exciting to work on their new shop after completing the build-out for their Scott's Addition location in 2017.

West End Addition + Renovation

We will be breaking ground on this two-story addition in the early fall which will include a new living room space with a covered porch to enjoy the outdoors next to their pool.

Fan Kitchen Reno

We’ll be saying goodbye to the 1990’s in this Fan home kitchen. Modern updates will introduce some great details into the space. We’re really looking forward to this transformation.

Jackson Ward Carriage House

This two-story carriage house was built in the early 1900’s and has been neglected for several years. It’s ready for some improvements including asbestos remediation, a new spiral staircase to the second floor and connections for an electric car charger.

Teammates

Our team continues to evolve and grow. Seth Scudder is now our production manager. John and Pat are doing an excellent job at managing projects and teams as our lead carpenters. Hunter and Ben are excellent carpenters and are learning quickly, and Bronwen rounds out our team with her design skills. We said fond farewells to Gregg and Jakob, but have welcomed new team members, Martin and Linnea.

Despite several obstacles, we’re excited about what we’ve been able to accomplish so far this year. We are grateful for an excellent team and wonderful clients, and have high hopes for the remainder of 2020. We’ll be sure to keep you updated as we continue to design and build excellent projects in Richmond and beyond!
