2016 Year in Review
2016 was a banner year for RIC design build.
This past year, we completed 32 design/build projects. The majority of these projects were located the city, Richmond, VA, with over half of them in the historic Fan neighborhood. The average age of houses that we worked on was 94 years old.
Whole house renovations
We completed several whole home renovations this year. While considering historic preservation, we leave very few surfaces untouched. We were able to expand on our unique specialty of bringing modern, efficient upgrades to our houses while leaving the historic charm.
Additions
Sometimes more space is needed. When it is, we are able to expand usable space without making a house feel choppy or awkward. The design/build process also makes addition projects streamlined so homeowners spend less time under construction.
Kitchen renovations
We built out some beautiful kitchens this year. From modern to traditional, these kitchens are functional and beautiful.
Bathroom remodels
From small bathrooms where we excavated original pocket doors to a brand new bathroom we built onto the back deck of a historic home, our bathroom remodels this year were inspiring and made the homes we renovated much more livable and family-friendly.
SketchUp
SketchUp remained our favorite tool for drafting and rendering this year. For us, it always starts with a SketchUp design that allows our clients to see their new space in 3D, with as much detail as needed.
Continuing Education
We are always trying to learn and improve our craft. This past year we took trips to Baltimore for the JLC Remodeling Show and to Steamboat Springs for the SketchUp Basecamp.
Energy upgrades
It’s always about the details and we make sure that our renovations are energy efficient. We ended the year with an award from VAEEC's Virginia Energy Efficiency Leadership for our collaborations with Home Energy Remodeling on a residential remodeling project.
