2017 Year in Review

Looking back at the year - RIC design build continues to grow.

Overall we completed two dozens projects with the bulk of the work in six of those projects.  As we have grown over the years, so have our project sizes. A typical project now is an addition or whole-house remodel, which are generally 6-months long. Here are just a few highlights from those two dozen from 2017:

How it all gets done

Team Mates Matter

This year we took the time to highlight our project managers: Seth ScudderSteve Osberger,  and John Chinn.

These guys are truly where the rubber meets the road. They each oversee their own projects from start to finish, including client communication. Having a project manager dedicated to each client helps with that communication and allows us to pivot and adapt a project to our client's needs as it progresses.

Partners Matter

This year we partnered with two excellent local companies: Creative Conservation and Atlas Realty. Our ‘in-house’ skillset is design and carpentry, so for all of the other work we rely on a great group of skilled trade partners.

Project Highlights

This basement remodel in Westover Hills turned a gloomy, damp space into a light, bright, usable room.

Working on High Point Barbershop’s second location in Scotts Addition is one of the most unique projects we've worked on to date. Alongside the design team at Campfire & Co., we helped create a space that truly encapsulates the Highpoint brand - a major concern for them as they branched out beyond their original location.

Our North Belmont Avenue renovation was one we did in partnership with Atlas Realty. We loved the combination of old and new in this home and so did buyers as it was snatched up within a few days of going on the market.

This West End addition was a challenge we gladly accepted. Pivoting as needed throughout the process, we were able to give this family additional indoor and outdoor living space.

Another addition project in the West End tested our design/build skills to merge the old and new exteriors and interiors seamlessly.

At our Forest Hill addition, a large living space was added to the back of the house with serious attention to detail including heart pine flooring, shiplap ceilings and exposed wooden beams.

Tools

This year we began using the BuildClean system. We are always looking for ways to improve and to offer a better service, and BuildClean's filtration system helps us do just that. It’s always on our jobsite making the work environment cleaner and safer - what’s not to love about that?!

Awards

As the year wound down we were honored to win an award from the Virginia Energy Efficiency Council for the work that we did at our North Belmont Avenue project. This was the second year that we have won an award from the VAEEC. We are excited to be recognized for the work that we put into our renovations.

Lastly, as we look ahead, next year will be the 10th birthday for RIC design build.  It’s crazy to think about all that we’ve accomplished over the past decade and we are very excited for what we have in store for 2018!

Happy New Year!
